Who gets to decide
Who in our lives will go
And who will stay
While I reminisce here about you now
You probably moved on
And I know that I should too
I wonder if I ever cross your mind somehow
It’s not fair that it has to be this way
And I keep coming back to this one question:
“Was I not important enough to stay?”
I know what you would say
That it doesn’t work this way
You have other priorities
“We are just too different, you see”
I can’t deny that
It just still hurts that one of those priorities isn’t me
I get your point, I just feel so differently
Our attachments are not aligned
We share a past, we have to leave that behind
There is no future for us here
I wish it were different, but the truth is crystal clear
These moments though, they will remain
That I’ll meet with my grief again
I’ll just give it space and let it be
Because there is only one person that can care for it
I thought I depended on you for this, but it has to be me.
